Sargaratna Puraskaram was instituted in the year 2008, to acknowledge the performing talents in classical arts especially in carnatic music.

Sargaratna Puraskaram 2011 will be awarded to Ragaratnam Nedumangad Sivanandan on January 25th by our M.P. Sri. K.P. Dhanapal for his life long and eventful 60 years of violin discourse and devotion.

The Judging committee includes Prof. Tripunithura Chandra Mohanan, Thiruvizha Ullas & Balakrishna Kammath.

Ragaratnam Nedumangad Sivanandan was born on 30th Jun 1935 as the son of carnatic vocalist & Harmonist Sri. Neyyatinkkara Vasudevan Pillai and Smt. Dhaakshyaayani Amma. He had done in school days at Nedumangad High School and completed there in 1950.

He had learned the basics of carnatic music from his beloved father. After the demise of his dear father he had his higher studies in the violin as the disciple of one of the most famous violinists of the period Sri. ViruthuNagar Ganapathiya Pillai who was the disciple of great violin Maestro Kumbakonam Raja Manickam Pillai..

He had taken his diploma Ganabhooshan from Sree Swathi Thirunnal Sangeetha College Trivandrum in the year 1954. In 1955 he had joined Odampalli Government High School at Chertalai as a music teacher. In 1959 he had joined Nedumprakad Goverment School at Chertalai. He worked there for 26 years and left in 1985 and joined Uzhuva High Scool Pattanakkad. There he worked for 5 years & retired in 1990. He had contributed numerous professionals in the field of carnatic violin.

He have accompanied violin for the musical concerts by famous musicians like Dr. V. Dakshinamurthy, Padma Shri. K.J. Yesudas, Smt. Parassala B. Ponnammal, Sri. Nellai Krishnamurthy, Sri. T.M. Krishna, Kalamandalam Sankaran Embranthiri, Dr. Sreevalsan J Menon etc.

Recognising his contributions in 2001 Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy honoured him with an Award. Agni Cultural Academy honoured this great teacher with the title ‘Nadacharya’, for his contributions as a perfect teacher in the field of Music in 2008.

In 2011 Sruthilaya acknowledge this great musical genius by the title 'Sargaratna' for his long and eventful 60 years of violin discourse and devotion.

Sargaratna Puraskaram 2010 was awarded to Prof. B. Sasi Kumar on January 25th for his life long contributions to carnatic music by Central Minister Prof. K.V. Thomas.

The Judging committee includes Prof. Tripunithura P.T. Radhakrishnan, Dr. Bhuvaneswari & Allapuzha Gopinatha Prabhu. Prof. P.T. Radhakrishnan was the convener of three member judging committee.

Prof. B. Sasi Kumar was born on 27th Apr 1949 as son of nadaswara vidwan Sree M.K. Bhaskara Panickar and Sarojini Amma.

He had taken his master diploma Ganapraveen from Sree Swathi Thirunnal Sangeetha College Trivandrum. He had worked in the same college for 5 years. He had learned the basics of carnatic music from his beloved father Sree M.K. Bhaskara Panickar . Later he became the disciple of Violin Mastero Chalakudy Narayana Swamy. In 1971 he became the staff artist of All India Radio.

He have accompanied violin for the musical concerts by famous musicians like Chembai Vydianatha Bhagavadar, Semmankudy Sreenivasayer, Maharajapuram Santhanam, Dr.Balamurali krishna, D.K. Pattambal, D.K. Jayaram etc.

Sargaratna Puraskaram 2009 was awarded to Prof. Parassala B. Ponnammal on January 25th for her life long contributions to carnatic music by Adv. V.D. Satheesan M.L.A.

The Judging committee includes Shree T. K. Vinaya Chandran, Nedumkunnam Vasudevan & Vaikom Prasad.

Prof. Parassala B. Ponnammal born in 29th Nov 1924. She had contributed her first Presentation in the age of 16. Adoor Paramu Pillai Bhagavadar was her first guru. She had passed her Ganabhooshan in the first rank. She was the disciple of famous carnatic vocalist Sangeetha Kalanithi Semmangudi R Sreenivasa Iyer, Muthaiyya Bhagavader, Padmabhooshan K.V. Narayana Swamy and Palakkad C.S. Krishnaiyer

She was the A TOP Artist of AIR Trivandrum & Tiruchirappali. Participated or conducted musical concerts in almost all parts of India.

She had joined in Trivandrum Cotton Hills Girsl High School as music teacher in 1942. Then she joined in SSTC Trivandrum and worked as Proffessor till 1970. She had retired as the Principal of R.L.V. College Tripunithara in the year 1980.

Sargaratna Puraskaram 2008 was awarded to Prof. Mavelikkara K. Velukkutty Nair on January 25th for his life long contributions to carnatic music.

The Judging committee includes Shree Ragaratnam Nedumangadu Sivanandan & Retired Principal Prof. Amabalapuzha Thulasi.

Prof. Mavelikkara K. Velukkutty Nair born in 2nd Oct 1926 as the son of Mrindanga Vidwan Late Muthukulam S. Kumara Pillai. He had learned his premilinary lessons from his beloved father. He also undergone gurukula training in mrindangam for 8 years under the Late Padmabhooshan Palakkad T.S. Mani Iyer.

He had worked in Sree Swathi Tirunnal College of Music Trivandrum from 1959 onwards and retired as Proffessor & Head of Department of Mridnagam from SSTC TVM in the year 1982.

He had accompanied mridangam for famous Artists Chembai Bhagavadar, Semmangudi R Sreenivasa Iyer, Althur Brothers, G.N. Balasubhramanyam, Madurai Mani Iyer, Palakkad K.V. Narayana Swami, M.D. Ramanathan, D.K. Jayaram, D.K. Pattambal, Smt. S.L. Vasanthakumari, Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna, Vaikom Vasudevan Nair, Dr. K.J. Yesudas, Dr. N. Ramani, T.K. Govinda Rao, T.V.S, O.S. Thyagarajan, Neyyatingara Vasudevan etc.
